"...where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. " (2 Cor. 3:17)
 CHRIST CENTERED AND TRADITONAL THERAPY
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will
be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."  Romans 12:2

Traditional psychology and psychotherapy generally focus entirely on the mind and behavior, ignoring the spiritual aspects of human challenges. Most psychotherapists, and the educational institutions which train therapists advocate against the integration of theology and the theorizing about God's influence in the psychotherapeutic setting. Commonly they insist on leaving out spiritual values, the Bible, and Christian beliefs entirely.

At Carlson Counseling & Psychotherapy we believe in the integration of an eclectic psychology with a biblically-based Christian theology. We believe that facilitating the development of true psychological well-being should include the integration of the body, soul, and spirit in a balanced theoretical understanding of the whole person, and of what constitutes the best possible holistic treatment of that person.

Healing Heart, Mind and Soul With The Grace of God

We consider and exercise appropriate therapeutic approaches with a blending of disciplines regarding the three realms of the personhood of man: Those having to do with the Biological, the Psychological, and the Spiritual. We offer treatment, integrating sound, up-to-date, culturally relevant & proven psychological principles and methods, with a biblical, spiritual and faith-based foundation. But, recognize that we offer this only with the patient’s openness to it, and when it fits with their core values. Then, and only then, do we move from a traditional, secular and/or client-based therapy alone, and blend it with an integrated, Christ-centered counseling, psychotherapy, and teaching.

Regarding the Biological, we recognize that medical referrals might need to be made in the cases of those with bio-chemical imbalances. In such cases, we work in conjunction with outside medical doctors, especially psychiatrists, as part of a helping network. Medications are not provided at our office and are only recommended when an outside physician has thoroughly evaluated our patient and prescribes them as a necessity.

HEART • MIND • BODY • SPIRIT

We concentrate exclusively on the psychological, interpersonal and spiritual aspects of the whole person at our office.

We recognize that spirituality is a personal issue and we are committed to being non-judgmental, respecting the beliefs and values of all our patients. In doing so, our practice provides loving support by way of faith-based and/or traditional psychological disciplines carefully suited to the individuals being treated and to whatever their cultural, religious and familial background may be.

Our primary approach to therapy starts with the implementation of GRACE  (unearned favor/ unconditional acceptance) balanced with DISCIPLINE (guidance towards character development). This GRACE, as we know it, is God’s AGAPE LOVE, meaning unconditional positive regard and non-judgmental caring for each patient. This kind of love is essentially & virtually always balanced in our approach, and in concert with, a firm emphasis on DISCIPLINE, motivating all persons to seek the highest level of character development, moral reasoning and psycho-social & and spiritual values.

Blessed to announce the release of

"Looking upon the Heart: The Five Dispositions"

By Pete Carlson

It is the intention of this book to show how, by Looking upon the Heart, where Jesus may live, we can actualize healing and holiness at any moment in time.

In this in-depth, Christian psychology and self-help/textbook, the reader is enlightened as to what good and bad choices we can make about our character and personality;

the goal is to consistently be transformed (morphed) out of the unhealthy dispositions of the heart (the broken heart and the hard heart) into healthier ones

(the open heart, sweet heart, and the brave heart).
